Residents celebrate street’s heritage

Residents of Seymour Ave in The Brook recently celebrated their street’s heritage as part of Heritage Week.

They held an unveiling ceremony and street BBQ to mark the installation of new signs declaring the street a heritage precinct, as well as an information panel about the street’s history. the signs were installed by the Nelson City Council.

The street was created in the early 1900s and is regarded as an area where the architecture clearly shows the style changes from villa to bungalow.

Carolyn Sygrove, one of the residents behind the project and a Neighbourhood Support group contact person, said the new heritage signs looked great. She said they arose out of discussions between residents and the Nelson City Council over measures to slow traffic.
