Each Neighbourhood Support group is made up of neighbours living next door or across the road from each other, and groups are generally made up of 5 to 15 households. Each group has a contact person, who passes on information from Neighbourhood Support Nelson.
We assist groups to develop a contact list, so members can readily keep in touch. Often groups will hold social get-togethers occasionally, which we encourage as this is a good way to get to know neighbours better.
Some groups go a step further and develop a list of skills and resources that their members can share. This is a good way to prepare for emergencies such as natural disasters. You can read about one such group here.
Other groups undertake projects such as tree-planting in local reserves. It is up to each group to decide how it wants to operate.
